One of the sweetest elopements – Petra & Josh in Glacier National Park on June 22nd 2023. The beauty at every turn, the epic water falls, the peaceful serenity of no cell service – and then the momma bear and her cubs – Glacier National Park has held it’s place in my heart and never left. When Petra and I first connected, I knew instantly that this elopement would be one for the books. Many Glacier has my heart and Josephine Lake is something absolutely pristine and otherworldly. It’s the heart of Glacier Park and the best way to fully engulf into the Glacier Park experience is getting your lodging for all your guests 1 year in advance, and enjoying it afterwards with the best hikes the park has to offer.
Many Glacier park is typically accessible Memorial Day Weekend to the end of September and sometimes longer. The lodge itself is only open for a few months from June-Sept. And if you can take advance of this most glorious place – do it!
Needless to say, I was overjoyed to have the chance to go to Many Glacier to photograph Petra & Josh’s elopement. Having lodging there also really played the part into our beginning to end-of-day story that unfolded. I love this place and am so grateful that I get to go back to it so many times each and every summer with being just a few hours away from my home in Whitefish.
On their wedding day, Petra & Josh opted for a morning session, really capturing who they are as a couple day-to-day. A first look, a charcuterie heaven for everyone to enjoy and a 1 mile hike trek to Josephine Lake. We had each location pretty much to ourselves, which set the most intimate tone for the day.
Petra’s Mom was the behind the scenes talent. Having been a florist, she scouted out the most beautiful flowers from a flower farm down in Lolo Montana and created some beautiful pieces for everyone. She officiated their wedding, and was Petra’s hair stylist. It was special to see Petra’s mom’s touches.
Despite some minor cold winds in the middle of the day, and a run into momma griz and her cubs, they made things official along the shore of Josephine Lake. It ended with the last boat ride of the day arriving and giving a honk with the cheers of their first kiss as Mr. & Mrs!
Take a look at their beautiful day below….
